Health A Priceless Gift

Fabiola St-Hubert is a 29 year old woman who lives in Laweng, Cavaillon, Haiti. She has a live-in boyfriend with whom she has a 13 year old daughter named Carmeline who attends the local middle school.

Her family used to gather their water from a stream called “Tèt sous.” The water was dirty and not fit for consumption, but they didn’t have any alternatives. Unfortunately, Carmeline contracted chicken pox and typhoid fever simultaneously. The combination of the two viruses made her incredibly sick and caused her entire body to weaken and deteriorate. Initially, she was treated at the “Bonne fin de cavaillon” hospital. However, the treatments were not helping and to add insult to injury Carmeline was teased by her classmates for the way her illness impacted her appearance.

The medical costs were putting a lot of strain on Fabiola and her boyfriend, which was discouraging since they saw no real improvements in Carmeline’s health. They decided to have Carmeline move in with an aunt in Cavaillon to receive treatments at a different hospital in hopes she would recover. Thankfully, the decision was a good one as she has healed and regained her vibrant personality and appearance.

In May of 2021, her community received a well from Haiti Outreach and since then no one in her community has contracted any water-borne illnesses. They consider their well to be one of the most treasured possessions in their community and praise God for Haiti Outreach’s help to acquire clean water. Carmeline has also returned to her hometown in full health, which she will never take for granted again.
