Pignon Water System
In 2023, Haiti Outreach and its partners completed the first 24/7 water system in Haiti powered by a submersible pump and borehole. This groundbreaking project serves the town of Pignon, where Haiti Outreach is headquartered.
The Challenge: Pignon, with a population of approximately 8,000 residents, has struggled with water access for decades. The town's original water system, built in 1985, never functioned reliably for extended periods due to poor management. The old system suffered from unequal water distribution and used a flat-rate billing structure regardless of actual usage. Most importantly, it never provided universal access—not all households could connect, and the water wasn't consistently clean or available around the clock.
The Solution: The new system operates entirely on solar power and provides clean, reliable water access 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For the first time in Pignon's history, residents have consistent access to clean water.
Growing Success: Due to overwhelming demand, a second well is being constructed in 2025. The current well has reached its maximum output capacity, creating a long waiting list of residents seeking connection to the system.
Community Impact: The water system has significantly improved both the economic opportunities and health outcomes for Pignon residents, creating exponential benefits throughout the community.
Management: The system is managed by a women-led organization. The team receives coaching and leadership development from My Lovely Joseph, Haiti Outreach's leadership coach.
