A Key Part Of The Puzzle
Yvette Guerrier, serves as the Deputy Mayor of the town of Ferrier in the North East Department of Haiti. Their mission is to work for the development of the commune. Aligning the local authorities and communities is essential towards achieving this goal.
Nearly a year ago, Mrs. Guerrier met with Ms. Rose Carrmelle Pierre, a representative of Haiti Outreach as part of a partnership with Rotary Club. This partnership has helped provide an avenue for municipal leaders like Mrs. Guerrier, Haiti Outreach partners like Ms. Pierre, and local community leaders to meet and discuss ways they all can work together to make the municipality clean and create a healthy environment for all.
Today, thanks to the support of Haiti Outreach andHANWASH, the municipality is beginning to see the positive effects of these meetings. Dialogue and sharing knowledge constitute a major asset in providing answers to a community’s problems.
The meetings with the various actors working in the town of Ferrier, has allowed us to educate 40 families, who will build their own latrines. When latrines are built by the families that will use them, they are more motivated to use them properly and as more and more families maintain proper sanitary conditions, the communities are healthier all around. These collaborative efforts are not simple to coordinate, but are a key part of the puzzle in helping Haiti become a developed country.
