TRANSFORMATION IN ARTAUD

A year ago, our team was asked to travel to the community of Artaud in the NE Commune of Ferrier to assess their conditions. We found that out of 64 homes there, only 4 had adequate latrines. A nearby soccer field had been repurposed as a public latrine, which posed many health and safety hazards. Realizing the direness and urgency of the situation, our team got to work immediately helping them create a new future.

We began meeting with local leaders and officials, brainstorming the next course of action. Using the Haiti Outreach Way, the team began training community members in our systematic leadership methods. The implementation of our curriculum had remarkable effects.

We discovered that in a year, of the now 70 homes in the community, 66 of them had a latrine! The repurposed soccer field is now functioning as an actual soccer field. They’d originally planned to hold our follow up meeting in the field to honor their progress, but to everyone's dismay, it rained and this was not possible. Despite the rain, we were still able to meet with Artaud community leaders to celebrte the transfomation. Local officials were now leading the conversation surrounding their development! This is our vision for all communities.
