STANDING TOGETHER - A RESPONSE TO THE USAID SHUTDOWN

Thank you to the many of you who have recently reached out. We are deeply saddened by the news of USAID's total shutdown in Haiti and across the globe and the far-reaching consequences this will have on some of the most vulnerable communities worldwide. While we are not currently funded by USAID, we have received support from them in the past as recently as last fall and understand firsthand the critical role they play in international development.

The impact of this shutdown extends far beyond funding—it threatens essential services, disrupts long-term progress, and most importantly, puts the most vulnerable at even greater risk. This moment is a stark reminder of why reliance on external aid alone can be so detrimental: it can be taken away in an instant, leaving communities without the support they desperately need. This is one reason why Haiti Outreach is committed to building sustainable infrastructure and systems that empower communities to thrive independently, regardless of shifts in external funding.

This crisis underscores a troubling reality for the entire global philanthropic and nonprofit community. Organizations dedicated to sustainable development, both internationally and within the U.S., are facing unprecedented challenges. We stand in solidarity with our peers across the nonprofit sector who are suffering as we navigate this difficult time together. Especially those that are now experiencing violence because of this.

Now, more than ever, we must reaffirm our commitment to community-driven solutions that create lasting change. As others have suggested, please reach out to your representatives letting them know how important the nonprofit and NGO sector is.

Thank you for standing with us in our commitment to Haiti and to the broader social global development community. Your support and advocacy are more crucial than ever.
